Ryton ® Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS)
PPS offers the widest resistance to chemicals of any advanced engineering plastics. PPS is a semi-crystalline polymer with a high crystalline melting point of 545º F (285º C). PPS has no know solvents below 392º F (200º C), which attacks the polymer, and is inert to acids, strong bases, fuels as well as steam. The polymer is composed of alternating sulfur atoms and phenylene rings in a para-substitution pattern. PPS can be blended with other fillers producing a material with excellent long and short term thermal stability, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, low wear factors, as well as no water absorption. PPS is a material of choice where tight tolerance machining is required. PPS also has a very low flammability rating of V-O/5VA.
Components manufactured from PPS generally find themselves in Oil/Gas Production and Exploration, Electronics, Automotive, Pumps, Valves, Bushings/Bearings, Semi-Conductor CMP Ring Applications and many Industrial Applications. Tetralene has several custom blends of Ryton ® to meet your specific application. Our materials range in use from bearings to v-rings, and all is compression molded at our facility in Houston , Texas .

Description and Uses |
TR-540 |
Carbon/Graphite/Mineral Carbon Fiber Reinforcing |
Heavy duty bearing grade. Very rigid for lube and non-lube applications. Rotating shafts, bearing, rod packing, and compression rings. Lapable. |
TR-560 |
Carbon/Graphite/Mineral Carbon Fiber Reinforcing with PTFE |
Much like TR-540 with better non-lube performance. Heavier load at moderate RPM. |
TR-610 |
Glass Fiber/Graphite/Carbon Mineral/ Soft metal Oxide with PTFE |
Lighter duty bearing grade. Water or lubricated. High strength. Back-up rings and general structural uses. |
TR-611 |
40% Glass Fiber |
Utility grade, compression molded equal to R-4. |
TR-612 |
50% Glass Fiber |
Harder, more rigid than TR-611. |
TR-615 |
Glass Fiber/Graphite/PTFE |
General purpose material. Very similar to TR-611 and 612 with small amounts of Graphite and PTFE added for lubricity. |
TR-618 |
35% Glass Fiber/15% PTFE |
Excellent general purpose baring and back-up grade. Higher impact, lower friction. |
TR-633 |
Mineral and Glass with Soft Metal Oxide and a Trace of PTFE |
Our strongest back-up ring grade. Highly resistant to creep and fracturing. Competes with PEEK and Torlon® on a cost versus performance basis. |
TR-840 |
Proprietary |
Competes with Fluorosint at a lower cost and faster delivery time response. |
TR-860 |
A Proprietary reinforced alloy of Ryton® & PTFE |
An improved variety for high pressure, high temperature v-rings and packing. |
TR-861 |
A Proprietary reinforced alloy of Ryton® & PTFE |
Slightly more flexible and resilient than TR-860. The best all purpose grade for v-rings and semi-flexible packing. |
TR-865 |
Ryton/PTFE alloy with Moly, Graphite and Glass Fiber |
Most flexible of the PPS/PTFE alloys. High heat stability but able to seal at low pressure. |
TR-888 |
Proprietary. High Temperature Sealing Material |
For use as a sealing material (v-rings, packing, etc.) in extreme heat (up to 700° F) pressure and corrosion. |
