Modified PTFE, the next generation molding powders, is a chemically modified granular PTFE resin with enhanced properties for applications beyond those of conventional PTFE. Modified PTFE has a lower molecular weight than that of conventional PTFE allowing for a lower melt viscosity. However with the modifier used, the mechanical properties of the material, are that of conventional PTFE resulting in a dramatically reduced creep (cold flow) resistance. The lower melt viscosity allows better particle fusion during sintering cycles, resulting in a product with lower permeability from a denser polymer structure.
Additional Benefits:
A substantially lower deformation under load resistance.
Lower permeation due to dense polymer structure and fewer voids slowing the transmigration of aggressive liquids and gasses.
Bond parts by clamping them and re-sintering them in an oven. Moderate clamping pressure and a bond strength which approaches that of the material itself.
Smoother surface finish with lower porosity.
Improved stress recovery at elevated pressure than that of conventional PTFE.
Extreme resistance to aging and/or embrittlement.
